I finished work at my\u00a0salaried job a bit over a\u00a0week ago.\u00a0From here in\u00a0I’ll be counting\u00a0on the income from one day a week of self-employment in Auckland, and a similar gig — though at a fledgling stage — in Whangarei. There are a couple of part-time contracts on the horizon, as yet unconfirmed.<\/p>\n

We haven’t quite got the Auckland house on the market yet either. Don’t get me started on why; it’s a long and irritating story\u00a0involving a deck rail and a council building inspector. Upshot being\u00a0there’s still that\u00a0mortgage to service for a a few months.<\/p>\n

Maybe it would have been more sensible to wait for financial certainty before ditching the government job.\u00a0Over the years\u00a0though I’ve learned that the process of radically changing your life is like\u00a0working a flying trapeze<\/a>; in order to reach the place you want to be, you must first let go of the safety\u00a0you’ve\u00a0been\u00a0holding onto.<\/p>\n
