I’ve put together\u00a0five\u00a0Billy<\/a> bookcases in the last few days, and, I must say, you have to admire the\u00a0IKEA concept. Designer items, cunningly flat-packed for economical shipping, and each\u00a0with all\u00a0the right pieces in all the right quantities for a no-hassle assembly. Well, usually.<\/p>\n

After doweling,\u00a0screwing, and nailing the fifth\u00a0bookcase\u00a0together I found\u00a0this collection\u00a0of left-over components still in the\u00a0box.<\/p>\n

Not funny IKEA!<\/p><\/div>\n

What’s going on? Is this some Swedish factory worker’s* idea of a joke?\u00a0‘Mmmmwwwwahaha, that’ll keep\u00a0someone confused for hours!’. Perhaps\u00a0he \/she (I bet it’s a he),\u00a0randomly pops few extra parts\u00a0into every 1,313th package?<\/p>\n

Even though I was on\u00a0bookcase number five, and by then could pretty much have assembled a Billy<\/em> in my sleep, I still felt the need to do a full check on\u00a0the darn thing. Let’s face it, no-one wants to be responsible for\u00a0a bookcase collapsing and burying some poor unsuspecting soul\u00a0in a deluge of literature. For those of you likely to visit and stand about in the vicinity of said bookcase; you can thank me later.<\/p>\n

Check in again soon. I’m going to be back with progress pictures of the new bookshelves. And, because this is a\u00a0real life blog, (1) they are far from finished, and (2) there is rather a lot of untidy house in the background.\u00a0It’ll make you feel heaps better about your own housekeeping. Promise.<\/p>\n

* Actually that was artistic license. IKEA items, like everything else nowadays, are\u00a0made\u00a0in China.<\/p>\n
