On July 16 we move from a safe little \u00bc acre of city fringe to 14 acres of new territory.\u00a0After five years of dreaming, scheming\u00a0and saving it&#8217;s actually about\u00a0to happen.<a href=\"http:\/\/charmedlife.co.nz\/cowboybootsandbrokenfingers\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ruby-2011-12-23-94-e1435923743132.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_157\" style=\"width: 693px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/charmedlife.co.nz\/cowboybootsandbrokenfingers\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ruby-2011-12-23-942.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-157\" class=\"size-full wp-image-157\" src=\"http:\/\/charmedlife.co.nz\/cowboybootsandbrokenfingers\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ruby-2011-12-23-942.jpg\" alt=\"Our bees\" width=\"683\" height=\"620\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.charmedlife.co.nz\/cowboybootsandbrokenfingers\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ruby-2011-12-23-942.jpg 683w, http:\/\/www.charmedlife.co.nz\/cowboybootsandbrokenfingers\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ruby-2011-12-23-942-300x272.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-157\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our bees &#8211; I really should let them know they&#8217;ll be moving<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">I don&#8217;t think we really have any idea what to expect.\u00a0These are some of things I&#8217;m hoping for:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Bigger and more productive food\u00a0gardens, with the aim of\u00a0eventually growing most\u00a0of the vegetables we eat and some of our own fruit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">A\u00a0meat supply with\u00a0known provenance.\u00a0We&#8217;ve eaten two home bred roosters in the last year so I feel confident about the occasional roast chicken. Whether or not we&#8217;ll be eating lamb once we\u2019ve looked our own in the eye is a whole other question.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">More time training and riding the ponies. This should be achievable since each time I walk out to their paddock\u00a0and back I&#8217;ll be saving over an hour of\u00a0driving. Lets see whether the <a href=\"http:\/\/charmedlife.co.nz\/cowboybootsandbrokenfingers\/and-then-there-were-two\/\" target=\"_blank\">swagalicious Bonnie<\/a> can be persuaded to pull a little cart, and how long it takes to\u00a0teach <a href=\"http:\/\/charmedlife.co.nz\/cowboybootsandbrokenfingers\/how-it-started\/\" target=\"_blank\">Summer<\/a>\u00a0to line herself up nicely with a\u00a0mounting block.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">An improvement in my fitness. This farmlet is my alternative to a gym membership. Yes, and a very expensive one I know. Never mind that. Focus on how walking around 14 acres, pulling up weeds, digging gardens and constructing fences will build my muscles and increase blood oxygenation. I\u2019m going to be practically <a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-dYygGq-7_p8\/UHcSQiyBd5I\/AAAAAAAADl4\/14FNi47gAhU\/s1600\/Actor-pictures-arnold-schwarzenegger-wallpapers-hd-arnold-schwarzenegger-wallpaper-13.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/a> by Christmas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Lots of fun projects. Including experimenting with micro hydro power from the stream, learning to milk a goat (thanks in advance Matthew), and organising music gigs and yoga retreats in the barn &#8212; no, silly, not simultaneously.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Many opportunities to hang out\u00a0with Stephen and Deborah, our friends and\u00a0co-conspirators in this rural venture.
